DeVries has been dealing with knee problems all training camp and he had arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday to clean up loose cartilage.
The 34-year-old 12-year veteran missed the 2009 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Since coming into the league as a third-round pick of Detroit in 2000, he has appeared in 118 games and has totaled 188 tackles and 16 1/2 sacks.
Also on Friday, the team waived safety David Roach and signed defensive tackle Jaron Baston and safety John Wendling.
